Keane

For a while I thought I didn’t like Keane too much. This was mostly due to to one line in their song “Somewhere Only We Know”, which is otherwise wonderfully composed:

“ Oh simple thing where have you gone/…”

I think my irritation in this is not due to the words themselves, but more how they are sung. I guess I wasn’t even listening closely enough. At first, I thought the words started as “Oh Sympathy.” When I actually started hearing the words, I liked the beginning words best:

“ I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete”
