Summer Decisions
Junior year is over! I am quite ecstatic
D
So for the summer I’ll probably be doing some sort of work; I’m not sure which I should pursue though!
Option 1 :
Work for Public Interest Research Groups (PIRG), namely Environment Maryland. I don’t know a whole lot about environmental research and am not an avid Green Earth type (or even a vegan!) but I think this is a good cause. The work mostly consists of canvassing at the Baltimore location. It’s a little daunting for me because I am not a fan of public speaking. However, the trainers there think it seems natural to me. I guess I carry myself better than I thought!
The colorful pin…
The main problem that has arisen is the work hours. When I first signed up for work, I was told there were shifts from (a) 9am to 5pm and (b) 1pm to 10pm. I originally signed up for 1pm to 10pm, thinking I might take some summer courses, but now I need to have it be from 9 to 5! Apparently, the Baltimore office only operates from 1 to 10, so they told me that the DC office has both shifts. Except I don’t know where the DC office is! I haven’t even been able to speak to anyone form the DC office :/
(Help me anyone!)
Option 2:
This isn’t really an option. I’m definitely going to work on a continuation of last summer’s medical research. Basically, it’s experimental treatment of a consenting hospital patient population for a potentially lethal bacterium. I have an unhealthy relationship with medicine –> it hasn’t reciprocated my love for it yet. I love my supervisor there and it seems they want me!
…or the white lab coat?
The only trick here is when I should start work. Should I try working for PIRG for a bit and then do some medical work? Or should I just work on the research? The research is the most beneficial to my resume for sure ( I don’t have any sort of engineering internships to back up my major, but I think medical internships are strong too).
No pins required.
Of course the other option is to do nothing. But that’s not very desirable. When I apply for post-bachelor’s studies, the admissions committee will think,”What happened in the 3 month block? She did nothing!”
So I have to do something!

You don’t want to work at Chipotles?
My mother never trusted me in the kitchen haha
The worst part is that I didn’t know how to use a microwave until I was 7/ maybe 8
That might be misleading just because my family cooks a lot of meals from scratch. But still. That is kind of pathetic.
Thanks for stopping in at my blog earlier today! Congrats on finishing another year… I wish I still had summer break!
Hi PaperD!
Sorry I haven’t been around. ..i’ve been busy. I have to do some catch up on your blog.
I can’t help you with your decision here, but I can tell you this… I wish I could wear a white lab coat. I’m not sure why. Maybe i’ll feel smarter.
It stops being white at the end of the week
Haha sometimes I pretend I’m Bill Nye. I love him!
When I was little I used to watch the show but not understand all the English. I thought the concept was that a genius scientist and his girlfriend lived with a giant rat in a sewer. It appears I was mistaken.

Nooooot to be weird, but you are gorgeous.
FYI I am a 20 year old girl (woman? lady? …Eh, female) and not some creepy old man. Hahaha
o6jk — Thank you!
I’m 20 too and give equal commenting rights to all, except creepers of either gender
